Online Bible College Degree: About Biblical Studies Bachelor’s Degree Programs

Are you interested in pursuing your education by focusing on Biblical studies?  It’s a great idea, especially for those who feel the call to ministry.  If you believe your vocation lies in ministry, as a pastor, youth leader or youth pastor, worship coordinator, administrator within the church, or educator within the church, an online college Bible degree could be a great choice.

But what exactly is a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies?

If you choose to enroll in an online program to work towards your degree in Biblical studies, the exact make-up of the program will largely depend on your school’s own requirements.  However, there are some basic things most online Bible college degree programs have in common.

General Education/Core Classes

You’ll have some general education requirements, of course.  These are also the same sorts of classes you’d take if you were going for just an associate’s degree.  They include basic college-level English, Math (Algebra and Statistics are two of the common choices), Science, and History courses.  You may have another social sciences or humanities requirement or two as well.

Old and New Testament Biblical Studies

Of course, your online Bible college degree in Biblical studies will include, well, a lot of courses in Biblical studies!   You’ll also probably need to take several semesters of at least one Biblical language; this could be Greek, Hebrew, or Aramaic.  Some colleges may let you take Latin instead or as well.

Other Courses

You’ll be able to choose quite a few electives to augment your study and fulfill your credit requirements.  It’s a good idea to choose these carefully, perhaps even to declare a minor, to support your career goals.  If you are preparing for ministry, there are courses you can choose that will help you do that, for example.
